The onus is very heavy on this week's game against the Washington Commanders for me as a Dallas Cowboys fan. This game feels different from all others. It’s not just about the team’s record.
Dallas is sitting at 3-7, well below .500, while Washington is thriving at 7-4. As a Cowboys fan, I can't help but feel the weight of their five-game losing streak. Breaking it seems improbable with the way things are going.
Where to Watch
If you're looking to catch the Cowboys vs. Commanders game, it'll be live on FOX. The game is at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday, Nov. 24.
For those who want to stream the game, fuboTV is offering a free trial. I’ll definitely be following the action through the CBS Sports App.
The Stakes: A Rivalry Rekindled
This game is a big deal for both teams. The Cowboys have been disappointing this season. The loss of Dak Prescott to a season-ending injury hurt.
Their backup, Cooper Rush, will need to step up if they have any hope of ending their losing streak. For Washington, the season is looking promising. Dan Quinn now leads their defense, and he's familiar with the Cowboys inside and out.
The Cowboys’ Struggles: Can They Turn It Around?
Watching the Cowboys this season has been tough. With Dak Prescott out, Cooper Rush has taken over as the starting quarterback. Rush's performance so far has been inconsistent.
He’s struggled to find a rhythm with CeeDee Lamb, and I can’t shake the feeling that the Cowboys are missing something without Prescott. I think the Cowboys’ best chance on offense is to rely on the running game.
Washington's defense has struggled against the run, allowing 150.5 yards per game. But without key offensive linemen like Zack Martin and Tyler Smith, running the ball might not be as easy as it sounds.
Washington’s Offensive Strengths: Jayden Daniels Shines
On the flip side, the Commanders are in a great position to take advantage of the Cowboys' defensive struggles. Rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels has been playing lights out this season.
Watching him lead the offense has been impressive. The Commanders have a balanced offense, with Daniels working well with running backs Brian Robinson Jr. and Austin Ekeler. I expect Washington to keep the pressure on the Cowboys by mixing in fast-paced play and well-timed screens.
Defensive Showdown: Can the Cowboys Stop Washington’s Attack?
As a Cowboys fan, I’m hopeful that the return of DaRon Bland can help turn things around on defense. His absence earlier this season was felt. His return could give the Cowboys the boost they need.
Pair that with a healthier Micah Parsons, and I’m hoping the Cowboys’ defense can slow down Daniels and the Commanders' offense. However, it won’t be easy. The Cowboys have struggled against the run.
They will need to stop Robinson and Ekeler from gaining significant yardage. I can already see Fowler and the rest of the Commanders' defensive front creating problems for the Cowboys’ offensive line.
Prediction: Commanders Take Control
Based on everything I've seen this season, I think the Cowboys are in for another tough game. While Dallas has a strong defense, it’s hard to see them overcoming Washington’s high-powered offense.
The Cowboys will likely get some points in garbage time, but I don’t think it’ll be enough to make a real comeback. Commanders will take control early and win the game comfortably.
Final Score Prediction: Commanders 34, Cowboys 17
As a fan, I’ll always hold out hope for a Cowboys victory, but it’s hard to ignore the facts. Washington is simply playing better football right now. Unless something drastic changes, I see this one going their way.
Here's to hoping the Cowboys can surprise me, but I’m not holding my breath.
